Shot Pots

Statement from KWASS

I am interested in exploring familiar forms, such as the pot, but by pushing my finger through the clay I am able to render the work non utilitarian, thereby altering the basic function of the familiar object. In past cultures clay objects such as this would have held grain or water, by piercing the surface there is a contrast of extremes exploring inside and outside. Clay is such a willing material where the touch of a finger or the breaking through of the surface creates vagaries of texture dealing with surface and form.

This continues my curiosity in connecting objects together in ways that explore mutual survival. The creation of one complete piece from two objects is part of the inventive process, creating a new relationship through balance and connection.
